I fell in love with the creative little jailbird announcement via (where else?) Pinterest. Ashlee at myspoiledeggs (well, actually, her husband!) created the dearest mugshot birth announcement for her son, Nolan. She posted a little mugshot birth announcement how-to on her blog… which might have come in handy before I tried it on my own, haha.

So how did the fail come about? Firstly, I could not find a black and white striped outfit ANYWHERE; I seriously looked for about 5 months. So a friend, knowing I was obsessed with this birth announcement idea, painted black stripes on a white onesie. So sweet of her, but…the onesie was stiff as hell!

Secondly, throw any ideas of creative newborn poses out the window because–surprise!–two-day-old babies do not care what vision you had in mind for their birth announcement. They’ll lay any way they damn well please.

Thirdly, I tried to Photoshop a little mugshot sign into her hands. Absolutely ridiculous.

Fourthly, my mother-in-law was upset that she looked like a boy.

Anyway, I decided to forgo the whole jailbird photo announcement and went with a sweet, non-prisoner announcement from Tiny Prints that showed Holden in her fuzzy owl hat (from HatandColdCrochet). But just for giggles, I mocked up the mugshot and posted it to Facebook. No one got it. Oh well, I tried.
