
I was on Dateline on Friday… and I didn’t even have to kill anybody. Turns out, the show’s producers are awesome at social media and engaging their fans, of which I’m a huge one. I’m a huge true crime junkie. I’m pretty sure it started when I was little, when my grandma used to give me her true crime magazines after she was finished with them. Because it’s totally healthy for children to read about abduction, rape and murder. But I loved it.
So I’ve been conversing with the show’s producers and the Dateline Twitter account for about a year. They sent me a snuggie, wished me Happy Birthday, and gave my Twitter handle an on-screen shout out. It’s been awesome.
Then they decided they were going to run a promotion where they’d visit some of their biggest fans IRL. They’re calling it #DontWatchAlone and they came to my town first, because my friend Trisha and I are their super fans. Hey – when you have a kid, Dateline is about as exciting as it gets on Friday nights.
