play therapy

If you have a kid with some special needs, you’re probably familiar with the rigamarole that is finding great behavioral health care.

After several years of family counseling through our local health system that I really didn’t feel was making much of a difference, I was thrilled to find The Center for Creative Arts & Play Therapy.

Holdy, as you’re probably aware by now, is a super creative kid who loves art, making, destroying, and all things imagination. I felt very strongly that this was going to be a good fit. So I joined the waiting list… for 6 months (have I mentioned it’s not easy finding great behavioral health care?)

In April, we were finally able to start. As soon as I walked into Holdy’s therapy room, I knew we had made a great choice.

So calming. So pretty. So. Much. Stuff.

Admittedly, we’re off to a slow start. Holdy is generally slow to open up in any sort of doctoral situation; even for her annual physical. It’s my hope that The Center will be Holdy’s safe space where she can verbalize the emotions she’s having; can explore the things that “get stuck in her head”; and can find her joy and peace through art.

When you’re a parent of a kid with a diagnosis like Holdy’s, you’re willing to try anything… and just hope you aren’t screwing them up too bad in the process.
